Taxila pageant queen crowned Junior Princess of the Globe South Africa
Taxila Secondary School Gr 12 learner Jaycee Tomes (18) from Westenburg started to model in 2014 after she won her first title as Little Miss Amplified.
POLOKWANE – Jaycee won more than 12 titles excluding awards for other projects she has done, and was recently crowned Junior Princess of the Globe South Africa.
“I feel so blessed and honoured for winning the title, as it has been a tough competition filled with so many talented girls. I competed against approximately 38 models and managed to represent my province by winning the title,” she said.
The competition was held in Pretoria at the ACCP Hall on October 10.
“My journey started in February when I was selected as one of the finalists. I learned many things because we were given an opportunity to put ourselves out there as finalists to help those in need.
“I managed to collect 200 pads along the journey as I believe that pads should not be a privilege but a right and every girl and woman should feel comfortable in their own bodies,” she said.
Jaycee also managed to gather food and clothes for her community and is happy to have had the opportunity to put a smile on other people’s faces.
“My way to handle modelling and school at the same time was good time management and setting up a schedule has made me balance my school work and modelling very well. To girls who would like to enter pageants but are hesitant because of school, my advice would be to plan and strategise your time properly,” she advised.
Jaycee experienced stage fright as a challenge within the beauty industry. “This was a major issue, but as time went on, modelling turned out to be one of the platforms that helped me overcome it. I managed to build up my self-confidence as I put myself in front of so many people.
“This led me to overcome my stage fright as I was more comfortable with who I am,” she said.
She explained that Taxila has been one of her biggest supporters and for that she is grateful.
“I managed to gather school books from them to donate to the less fortunate schools. My teachers and fellow learners have managed to help me with donations to support my pageant journey,” she said.
