Limpopo teen murder: Cops yet to make arrests
15-year-old Lehlogonolo Gomba was killed and his father injured following a robbery at their home.
LIMPOPO – It has been a week since Lehlogonolo Gomba (15) and his 56-year-old father were shot during a house robbery in Shongoane 1, Lephalale.
Lehlogonolo was reportedly awakened by the noise coming from his father’s room, where three armed men demanded keys to two motor vehicles.
It is believed the robbers escaped with the two vehicles, as well as bank cards and R2 000 in cash.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo told Review that investigations continue, and that no arrests have been made yet.
Meanwhile, Congress of South African Students (Cosas) Waterberg regional secretary Frans Kgole said they marched to Vila Nora Police Station on Friday (November 19).
“We marched to this police station in Shongoane 2 as there is no police station in Steve Biko. The purpose of the march was to ensure the case of Lehlogonolo is prioritised and that justice must prevail. The perpetrators must be brought to book, prosecuted and account for the brutality and trauma they caused. When murders are committed, it affects the whole society and as Cosas in the region; we are members of the community before we are learners and leaders of Cosas,” he added.
Kgole said a memorandum of demands were handed over to the station commander. “The memorandum demands justice for Lehlogonolo, as well as for the improvement of the justice system and a more effective way of fighting crime that affect young people. The station commander gave us the assurance that the case will prioritised and we have been informed that the cases has been handed over to the Crime Intelligence Division,” he explained.
Kgole was unable to provide information on the current state of the father. “Incidents such as this one leaves everyone traumatised,” he concluded.
Lehlogonolo was buried on Saturday (November 20).
