Limpopo Hawks nab explosives seller
The man was arrested at his home in the Northern Cape.
LIMPOPO – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) have successfully arrested a 34-year-old man believed to be a cash-in-transit explosives dealer.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said the man was arrested at his home in the Northern Cape earlier today (November 25).
“In September 2020, the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit received information about a suspect who was selling assembled-explosives in the province. The explosives were allegedly sold to cash-in-transit robbers and ATM bombers,” his statement read.
Maluleke said the information was followed up and that the man was arrested at his home, in collaboration with Limpopo Crime Intelligence.
“It is believed the suspect might have been selling the explosives to the people who blasted ATMs and robbed cash delivery vehicles in some parts of Limpopo, particularly in the Tzaneen and Burgersfort areas,” he added.
Maluleke said the man is expected to appear in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (November 26), for contravening the Explosives Act 15 of 2003.
