POLOKWANE: School children sent to hospital after bus, minibus collide

The children sustained moderate injuries during the incident, says Russel Meiring, ER24's Communications Officer

POLOKWANE – Eight children were sent to hospital on Monday morning after a bus and a minibus taxi collided. The incident happened along the R71 road, 11 km outside the city at around 07:30.

According to ER24’s Communications Officer Russel Meiring, the paramedics arrived on the scene to find both vehicles on the side of the road, the minibus had overturned.

“Several children were seen sitting on the side of the road and were assessed by the medics.”

Mering said eight of the children were found with moderate injuries and were treated on the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The children are aged between four and 19 years of age, he added.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations. The exact cause of the incident will form part of a police investigation.
