Learners donate 98 pairs of glasses for a good cause

The learners and staff of Hadasha Learning Centre handed over 98 pairs of glasses to the Lions’ Operation Brightsight

POLOKWANE – The Lions’ Operation Brightsight is a project in which the Lions, a non-profit charity organisation collects secondhand reading glasses.

These glasses are then donated to those who cannot afford eye tests or glasses.

Last Wednesday the learners and staff of Hadasha Learning Centre handed over 98 pairs of glasses they collected for ‘Operation Brightsight’. Karl Varkevisser, chairman of the Lions Club Polokwane, visited the school to receive the donation.

“We collect secondhand hearing aids to help those in need as well. This is not as easy as hearing aids are expensive and not easily given away. We thank the school for their yearly contribution to ‘Operation Brightsight’.”

Principal Ginny van der Merwe thanked the learners for their contributions.

“It is amazing how many pairs of glasses just lay around in people’s homes, no longer in use. We would like to challenge other schools in the city to equal or better this effort and help light up someone’s life by giving them the gift of clearer sight.”
