Eleven people were initially charged with his murder of which two of the accused are adults, while the other nine were minors at the time. One of the minors passed away before the matter was moved to the Limpopo High Court and three of the remaining minors have since turned state witness.

The murder trial was postponed in July after accused number 6 tested positive for Covid-19.

The postponement in July was the second time the trial was postponed due to Covid-19, with the first postponement in January.

According to National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, one of the accused said the teenagers were in three groups assaulting the deceased.

“The two adults rejected the fact that they both assaulted the deceased as implicated by four of the witnesses. It was the evidence of all state witnesses, child offenders and accused persons that during the assault, the deceased didn’t say anything and he never retaliated,” she explained to Review.

Malabi-Dzhangi said judgement is expected to be heard on Wednesday (December 8).
