Limpopo woman responds to social media bullies who mock her ‘dark skin’

23-year-old entrepreneur Adivhaho Malidzhi keeps her chin up after she was bullied on social media about her looks.

LIMPOPO – Adivhaho Malidzhi is a 23-year-old entrepreneur who recently got bullied on social media after she posted a photo of herself advertising her small business.

Her comment on this was muthu u naka mbilu husi muvhala wa lukanda lwawe, which means ‘the beauty of a person is in his heart and not his or her skin colour or body structure’.

You can always find Adivhaho in the streets of Thohoyandou where she sells kids’ ribbons on a daily basis.

“I make sure I stock ribbons in bulk and go sell them in Thohoyandou since I know that’s where I can get a lot of money,” she explained.

On October 27 Adivhaho posted a photo of herself where she showed the different kinds of ribbons she sells and informed people where she will be to sell them.  In less than an hour her photo started to trend and people made fun of her because of her dark skin.

“I received a lot of bad comments from people who said I am ugly and asked why I am showing my face rather than only showing the ribbons. Some even shared the post with just the laughing emoji and no comment. None of the bad comments stopped me from showing off my business since I know that I worked hard to be where I am, and regardless of what people say about my skin, it will never change because I was born like this,” she said.

Adivhaho told CV how it saddened her to see black people crush each other’s dreams to a point where someone might feel the urge to commit suicide.

“To all the young ladies out there, it doesn’t matter if people say you are too dark, tall, short or fat. Love yourself the way you are and never compare yourself to anyone, just like our late Lufuno Mavhunga said, ‘we are all beautiful in our own way’,” she added.
