Help make Christmas special for those who need it the most

There are various charities and shelters that would appreciate the extra hands or contribution towards meals and toiletries this Christmas.

POLOKWANE – The festive season is a time to spend with family and friends as we give thanks for a year that was. Many of us are fortunate to have a roof over our heads, with a warm meal and surrounded by love. Some people are not as fortunate and rely on the kindness of other people to get them through this time.

Review spoke to various organisations that play a key role during the year to find out what they will be doing this festive season for the less fortunate. Drienie van Wyk from Vision of Hope said that as a shelter, they are in dire need of toiletries for the people who reside at the shelter.

“Fortunately, we receive food from local farmers which we are able to share with other organisations. We would, however, appreciate donations of toiletries,” she said.

Mpho Chikane from Hands On Generation said their organisation will focus on child-headed homes this festive season and they would appreciate donations of clothes, stationery and toiletries for these families. “We would appreciate anything people can assist with, but we prefer to move away from monetary donations,” he said.
Jane Mogale from Kwelano Bohloko Old Age and Disability Centre said they need volunteers to come assist at the centre and would appreciate donations in the form of groceries. Contact them on 066 537 3331/072 531 2460/072 808 4603 or send an e-mail to kboadc1712@gmail.com.

Brenda Grebe from the Ivydale Shelter said they would like to make Christmas special for the people who reside there and this can be done through the donations of toys for the children, clothes, shoes, linen, household items, as well as food. “I can come and collect from your house,” she said.

Building Reconciliation Together, an organisation founded by Ezekiel Mohale, runs various initiatives including feeding the less fortunate and homeless people around town. They would like to continue to feed people during the festive season, however, it will depend on the donations that they receive to help plan a proper meal.
