One person dead and another critically injured along R528
Two men were trapped in the vehicle after the incident.
POLOKWANE – One man is dead and another critically injured after a truck rolled down an embankment off the R528 (Georges Valley road) on Tuesday morning.
ER24’s communications officer Russel Meiring, said paramedics arrived on the scene to find members of the fire fighting, rescue and emergency medical services already in attendance.
“On closer inspection, paramedics found a goods truck 50m down the embankment. Two men were trapped inside the cab and upon assessment of the patients the paramedics found that one of the occupants had already succumbed to his numerous injuries.”
The second occupant had sustained injuries to his pelvis and leg and rescue workers used specialised equipment to free him from the wreckage.
Meiring said once removed, paramedics provided the injured man with advanced life support interventions. He was thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
Local authorities were on the scene and the exact cause of the incident will form part of a police investigation.
