Two speedsters caught along N1 in Limpopo

Both men were arrested on the spot and charged with reckless and negligent driving.

LIMPOPO – The authorities on Friday (December 17) apprehended two men along the N1 road  for speeding.

Both transgressor were caught  by traffic officer after they exceeded the 120km/h national speed limit along the N1 between Polokwane Mokopane at the Ysterberg pass, said Limpopo Transport spokesperson, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala.

“A 42-year-old man was caught driving a Mercedes-Benz Vito at 174km/h while the second transgressor, a 39-year-old man driving a  VW Golf, was clocked at a speed of 203km/h,” he explained.

Both men were arrested on the spot and charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya welcomed the arrests and warned motorists to abide by the rules of the road. ‘Speeding is a leading cause of accidents in the province and we urge motorists to abide by the national speed limits and to not drink and drive.”

She concluded that traffic officers will not tolerate any transgressions and will deal harshly with those caught breaking the law.
