LNW: Pump breakdown affects city’s water supply

Lepelle Northern Water has informed the Polokwane Municipality of a pump breakdown at pump station 2.

POLOKWANE –  The city’s water woes continue into the new year. as reservoirs in the city and surrounding areas continue to drop.

In the latest statement issued by the Polokwane Municipality a breakdown at pump station 2 has been cited as the cause for dry taps.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) on Tuesday morning informed the municipality about a breakdown of a pump at pump station 2.

“The water utility indicated that the PS2 is currently running with one pump and that water supply to areas within Polokwane Municipal area from Ga-Chuene, Ga-Maja, Thokgwaneng, Polokwane and Seshego will be affected.”

On Sunday (January 9) the municipality also warned of low reservoir levels due to “constant stoppages by LNW”.

Areas within the city to be most affected include Flora Park, Bendor, Sterpark, Serala View, Legae la Batho, all Extensions, Madiba Park, Seshego, Central Business District, Ivy Park and Nirvana among others.

Selala says the municipality will monitor areas with shortage and provide temporary relief through water tankers until the situation improves

“Normal water supply shall be restored once LNW has finalised repairs to the pump,” he added.
