N1 north crash claims life of Thohoyandou chief
Royal leader Khosi Ndamulelo Mmbi (48) died in a car crash on the N1 outside Musina on January 21.
LIMPOPO – The mood was somber in the rural village of Maniini near Thohoyandou after the news of the untimely passing of the royal leader, Khosi Ndamulelo Mmbi. Mmbi (48) died in a car crash after his vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle on the N1 south outside Musina on January 21.
Tributes have been pouring from all corners of the country from other royal leaders, family and co-workers from Game Store Thohoyandou where he was working as the floor manager.
“We are saddened by his untimely passing. He was a hard-working royal leader in Maniini village, who fought hard to develop his village. Some poor and vulnerable members of the community in Maniini village benefitted from houses built for them through his leadership,” said the clan spokesperson, Khosi Nkhodeni Mmbi.
He explained that the late Mmbi was installed as the royal traditional leader of Maniini village in October 2016.
“He has helped his community in refurbishing the local graveyard and the extension of site for both communities and business people. He has engaged peacefully with the local Thulamela Municipality in the negotiation of claimed land under the proclamation and land issue, and young people are able to get better playgrounds with modern ablution blocks for both graveside and playground,” Mmbi added.

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya expressed her condolences.
The spokesperson, Mike Maringa confirmed that on the day of the accident, a bakkie collided head-on with a sedan.
Both drivers were killed on impact. Two passengers from the bakkie escaped with only injuries, Maringa said.
Khosi Mmbi was buried in the Mmbi sacred places (Zwiendeulu) today (February 2).
