Home Run for Education keeps its promise to rural learners
Politicians Makashule Gana and Solly Malatsi have fulfilled their promise to provide over 1000 learners in Limpopo with school shoes, uniforms, sanitary pads and learning material.
POLOKWANE – Makashule Gana and Solly Malatsi launched the Home Run for Education initiative to raise money to support poor learners in rural areas in the province.
Together, the avid runners ran 523kms in 15 days from Soweto to Tzaneen between August 7-22, 2020.

During the run, Gana and Malatsi raised R350 000 and received donations worth R100 000 in schools shoes, uniforms and learning material.

The duo delivered on their promise this week during a handover at seven schools identified, which included Gana’s alma maters Mushoti Primary School and Lefara Secondary School and Kgotlho Primary School where Malatsi studied.

“We both know the struggles of poor learners. Our mission is to assist them to study with dignity so that they have a fair chance to compete with their peers. It was heartwarming to see the smiles of these learners’ faces then they received everything. We are thankful to every South African who donated to our cause so we were able to buy these uniforms and school shoes” their statement read.
Rebone Hlatswayo, a learner at Lefara High School was quoted to have said: “Real heroes wear tekkies and run 523kms.”
The principal of Kgotlho Primary School, Mampshe Mamabolo praised the two men for their selflessness and passion to assist the education needs of poor learners, from their communities.
