Tip-off leads to the arrest of business robbers
The men were arrested after they were spotted parked at a filling station, the police say.
LIMPOPO – The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the men and women in blue following the arrest of four hardened criminals in the Vhembe District, earlier this week.
The four men, aged between 25 and 34, were arrested in connection with a chain of business robberies and carjacking cases that were reported at Tshaulu and Thohoyandou this month, police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed in a statement.
He explained that on Wednesday (February 16) members of the Trio Crime Task Team received information about a vehicle that was parked at local fuel station in Sebasa which was linked to an earlier business robbery at Tshaulu. “The team followed the leads and traced the suspects to their residences in the Maniini and Tshisele, Thohoyandou Unit E, Sibasa and Thohoyandou Unit P East areas, respectively. All four men were arrested.”
Mojapelo said the apprehended suspects have been positively linked to three business robberies committed at Tshaulu. Two of the suspects, aged 25 and 34, were also linked to a robbery and carjacking incident that occurred in Thohyandou.
A white Toyota Yaris was seized during the operation.
Mojapelo added that investigations still continue and the suspects may still be linked with other crimes in the district. “More arrests can also be expected.”
The suspects will appear in the relevant magistrate’s court soon on charges related to business robbery and carjacking.
