POLOKWANE – Various political parties have weighed in with their expectations for the 2022 State of the Province Address.

This year’s address is being hosted at the Legislative Chambers in Lebowakgomo where Premier Chupu Mathabatha will outline the ANC-led provincial government’s priorities and their plans for 2022.

Review journalist, Umpha Manenzhe spoke to Marcelle Maritz (Freedom Front Plus), Jossey Buthane (EFF) and Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba (ANC) on their expectations for this year’s address.

Marcelle Maritz (FF Plus)

The FF Plus’ Marcelle Maritz says she hopes Premier Chupu Mathabatha will address issues such as service delivery and water and sanitation and reiterated that corrupt officials should be held accountable and made an example of. 

Jossey Buthane (EFF)

The EFF’s Jossey Buthane says the Limpopo Government is running on ‘auto-pilot’, adding that the party is expecting updates on commitments made during last year’s address. “We want updates on unemployment, crime, infrastructure and corruption,” he said. 

Dr Phophi Ramathuba (ANC)

Ramathuba says she is expecting orders from the Premier, which will likely include soldiering on with the fight against Covid-19. In her personal capacity, Ramathuba added that she hopes for more job creation as it has a “direct impact on the health sector” . 

Manenzhe also spoke to the provincial police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe reagrding safety measures set out ahead of today’s address.

Ngoepe said their primary mandate is safety and security and that they were prepared for an event without any criminal activity.
