[LISTEN] Be patient on the roads, department urges
Limpopo is experiencing an influx of motorists ahead of the long weekend.
LIMPOPO – The spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matome Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, has urged motorists to be patient on the roads.
Moremi-Taueatsoala said the province is experiencing an influx of road users as we head into the long weekend.
“Traffic volumes have increased and continue to increase on our provincial roads, particularly on the N1 heading into Limpopo. We encourage our motorists to drive with caution and to be patient on the road,” he said and urged motorists to avoid texting while they drive.
Moremi-Taueatsoala also sent out a stern warning to those driving under the influence of alcohol. “Our traffic officials have been deployed in all corners of the province to make sure motorists comply with the rules of the road,” he added.

Moremi-Taueatsoala provided the traffic count at Nyl Plaza heading north into Limpopo:
13:00: 1 862 vehicles per hour.
14:00: 1 889 vehicles per hour.
15:00: 2 135 vehicles per hour.
He said as a result of the influx of road users, congestions may be expected at the various toll plazas en route to Polokwane.
“Be patient with each other. If you have an e-tag and it’s in good standing, make sure to use it to avoid the long queues,” he concluded.
