Allison hopes tennis will get Westenburg children off the streets

Allison Hernandez-Maldorado was at the Westenburg Flea Market to promote the sport in the community in the hopes that it will give children something to focus on after school.

POLOKWANE – Tennis coach and deputy secretary of the Capricorn Tennis Federation, Allison Hernandez-Maldorado said there are many benefits that come with playing tennis and encouraged residents in the Westenburg community to play the sport.

Allison and chairperson Daniel Ramokgopa were at the Westenburg Flea Market on Saturday (March 26) with the aim of introducing and promoting tennis in the community.

“With wanting more children to join tennis, we also want to keep them off the street and give them something to focus on when they return from school,” she said.

Allison said simple techniques, such as volleying has many benefits and can be done by children from the age of four and adults.

“The volley technique is easy for everyone to do as it broadens our understanding of muscle function. Most movements and techniques in tennis improve the mobility of muscles that are related to postural support in both left and right limbs,” Allison said.
