Limpopo police recover vehicle stolen in Pretoria near Musina

Police said two of the suspects arrested were supposed to receive R3 000 in cash for delivering the stolen vehicle to a hotel in Musina.

LIMPOPO – Five suspects will appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and property.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the five men were arrested by members of the Vhembe District Cross Border Task Team and the Limpopo Highway Patrol team (LHP) on Saturday night (May 21) after they were spotted speeding in the stolen Toyota Fortuner.

“The vehicle was reported stolen at the Garsfontein police station in Pretoria on Saturday morning. Our members gave chase and the said vehicle was pulled over before entering Musina,” he said.

Mojapelo said the vehicle was searched and most inner panels were stripped off or missing. “The occupants could not provide a satisfactory explanation. Further probe led to the positive identification of the owner of the vehicle and two suspects were immediately arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle which is valued at R600 000 was confiscated.”

According to Mojapelo, preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects were set to receive R3 000 in cash for delivering the stolen vehicle to a hotel in Musina.

“A snap operation was immediately executed and members proceeded to the said hotel, On arrival, they managed to arrest an additional three suspects who were sitting in a red vehicle. The vehicle was also searched and police found the stripped panels of the stolen Toyota Fortuner and two copies of the owner’s Identity Document,” Mojapelo said.

He added that police investigations continue.
