MOKOPANE – The matter has been postponed to June 22 as Mashamaite did not appear in court today (June 14).

Ngwako Seabela, Mashamaite’s lawyer, confirmed to Bosveld that a private doctor will be allowed to examine his client tomorrow (June 15).

The examination will be done at the Polokwane Correctional Services.

June 10

MOKOPANE – The four suspects arrested in connection with the murders of Ralph Kanyane and Vaaltyn Kekana will next appear on June 14.

The matter was postponed in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court earlier today (June 10) where the defence team abandoned their jurisdiction review application and continued with a formal bail application.

One of the accused, Jabu Mashamaite, submitted a letter to the court regarding his medical condition and said it was worsening while in custody.

Mashamaite requested that his private doctor be allowed to examine him but the state opposed and said he was attended to on June 6 and given his medication.

The defence said they have a private doctor that is willing to attend to the accused while in prison and alleged that Mashamaite was not attended to on June 6.

The court heard the head of the Polokwane Correctional Services will be summoned to explain why Mashamaite was not attended to as instructed.

In additon, a sick note was presented to the court that the investigating officer from Mankweng SAPS, detective commander Col Mohammed Wahab, is ill. As a result, the state applied for a postponement.

The defence challenged this application, however, the postponement was granted.
