Limpopo woman seeks support amid poverty

Lucia Mabunda lives in unsafe conditions and struggles to provide for her family, she pleads for help to secure proper shelter.

LIMPOPO – Life has been a constant struggle for Lucia Mabunda, an unemployed woman from Hamashau Doli, who has endured the harsh realities of poverty.

Living in a dilapidated house that could collapse at any time, Mabunda and her family lack the most basic necessities, including proper shelter and consistent access to food.

Mabunda’s home has no proper doors, and she often sleeps on the floor during winter.

“I am living in this old, broken house because I have nowhere else to go,” she told CV.

When it rains, water pours through the roof, further worsening her living conditions.

Surviving on occasional piece jobs and the kindness of neighbours, Mabunda struggles to make ends meet.

“The little money I earn goes toward food or repairs for the house, but it’s never enough. Sometimes, we go to bed hungry,” she said.

She has made a heartfelt plea to individuals and businesspeople who might be willing to help.

“We need a proper house and donations of any kind. We’ve been suffering in silence for a long time. I want to raise my children to have an education and a bright future,” Mabunda said.

A community builder, Jonas Mugovhani, confirmed that Mabunda’s plight is, sadly, not unique.

“We are aware of the hardships faced by people like Mabunda. We are currently compiling a list of villagers in similar situations, which will be sent to the authorities for assistance,” he said.

Mugovhani assured Mabunda that her case would be prioritised once the list is finalised.
