IEC to release Limpopo election results on November 9
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says it will take four days to count, verify and finalise Limpopo's results in the 2026 Local Government Elections before announcing them on November 9.
POLOKWANE – Limpopo will release the results of the 2026 Local Government Elections on November 9.
This was revealed by Provincial Manager for Electoral Operations Itumeleng Seanego during the launch of the Provincial Results Operations Centre at The Ranch Resort on Friday.
Extended verification process
Seanego said the Electoral Act allows the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to announce results within seven days after voting, but Limpopo will take four days this election to strengthen the counting, verification and handling of objections.
While the IEC has traditionally announced results within three days, an additional day has been built into this year’s process to enhance the credibility of the election.
Results centre to monitor count

Only 21 political parties will have dedicated representation at the Provincial Results Operations Centre. Seanego said the 21 parties are contesting across the province and have met the IEC’s requirements for representation at the centre..

The centre will serve as a hub where political parties, observers and the media can monitor the capturing and verification of results.
Speaking at the launch, Limpopo Provincial Chief Electoral Officer Nkaro Mateta said the Commission has a responsibility to ensure every vote is protected and counted accurately.
“This is the responsibility we carry as electoral stakeholders,” she said.
Mateta said South Africa’s democracy was born out of a long struggle for political freedom, equality and the right to participate in determining the country’s future.
“The elections of 1994 represented more than a change in government. They represented the restoration of the dignity of millions of people whose political voices had been denied,” she said.
