Sapa Yopa rally to draw 5 000 bikers to Polokwane

Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club will host its 19th annual rally at Meropa Casino in Polokwane from November 26 to 29, expecting over 5 000 bikers.

POLOKWANE – The Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club, regarded as one of the biggest motorcycle clubs in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, is preparing to host its 19th annual rally at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World at the end of November.

The event is expected to attract more than 5 000 bikers from across the SADC region, bringing together motorcycle enthusiasts for a weekend of entertainment, camaraderie and celebration of biking culture.

Weekend programme

The programme begins on November 26 with the Sapa Yopa Golf Day, followed by a gala dinner. Friday’s activities will lead into the main rally on Saturday, which will include a mass ride from Sun Meropa to Seshego. The weekend will conclude with an after-party on November 29.

The event will also feature vendor stalls and music festivals, while promoting motorcycle culture and tourism in Limpopo.

‘Electricity Linemen’ theme

This year’s theme is ‘Electricity Linemen’, dedicated to the men and women who have played a role in addressing load-shedding and restoring stability to South Africa’s electricity supply.

Sapa Yopa president Antonio Pico Santana Martins said the theme was intended to recognise the importance of electricity to households, businesses and the country’s economy.

“Electricity is life. Without it, our economy cannot function and the country cannot move forward. We need to appreciate the minister, the department and Eskom for the work done.”

Martins added that the club also wanted to highlight the need for every household to have access to electricity, describing it as an essential service in modern society.

He promised visitors an exciting experience, saying the club had surprises planned to make this year’s rally memorable.

Community comes first

With thousands of bikers expected in Polokwane, Martins said the club continued to work closely with the Polokwane Municipality and the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) to ensure the event ran smoothly and road users observed traffic laws.

He said the club valued guidance from the authorities and encouraged participants to act responsibly and maintain discipline throughout the rally.

Martins emphasised that the event belonged to the wider community, not just motorcycle enthusiasts.

“Sapa Yopa’s leaders remain committed to the founders’ principle that the community comes first. We must listen to residents and engage with them every year to ensure the event reflects their expectations and capacity.”
