Boy’s body retrieved from Seshego Dam

Two boys drowned after their make-shift boat capsized in the Seshego Dam on Saturday (August 13).

POLOKWANE – The body of Kubu Mashilo (12), who drowned in the Seshego Dam on Saturday (August 13), has been found.

According to a statement by police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, police divers retrieved his body from the dam yesterday (August 15).

“The South African Police Service’s Search and Rescue members conducted the search from Saturday (August 13) and had been hard at work until today at about 12:00 when they managed to retrieve the boy’s body,” he explained.

According to reports, Kotsema Ramaru (9) and Mashilo from Seshego Zone 5 drowned when the make-shift boat they were in capsized in the Seshego Dam.

Ramaru’s body was retrieved on the same day.

“Parents and guardians should ensure their children do not engage in swimming activities unsupervised and must be wary of this dam as several drowning incidents were reported in the area in the past,” Ledwaba added.

Police have opened two counts of inquest and investigations continue.
