POLOWKANE – Christmas is a heart-warming season that is all about goodwill and giving back.
While we are lucky enough to have friends, family, and a warm home in which we can celebrate the holidays, others are not so fortunate.
The founder of God’s Hope Orphanage Centre in Ext 76 near Madiba Park, Heskey Matovu, has expressed the much-needed efforts for volunteering and donations to the centre.
“Putting effort into considering those who are less fortunate during the festive season can be in the form of giving to those who don’t have or volunteering at shelters on Christmas can have a positive impact on many lives.”
Apart from the obvious benefits to the community, volunteering, in general, can help to form connections with others.
He adds that his shelter will be welcoming volunteers during the festive season and donations are always welcome.
“People who intend on volunteering during this busy time of the year bring warmth and live up to the meaning of the holiday spirit to the less fortunate.”
He also suggested a few places where people can volunteer:
- Animal shelters
- Orphanages
- Women shelters
- Nursing homes
- Local hospitals
- Homeless shelters
