Local activist gives abandoned baby a loving home

Baby Ado was recently found abandoned in the restrooms near a taxi rank in the Central Business District and has found a loving home with Mabotse Mothiba.

POLOKWANE – Having been an abandoned baby herself, social and political activist, Mabotse Mothiba says there was no hesitation in making baby Ado her own.

Baby Ado was recently found abandoned in the restrooms near a taxi rank in the Central Business District and has found a loving home with Mothiba.

“I know the effects of being given a second chance to live life, be raised with love and to love and care for others. Upon my arrival at the scene of her abandonment, she was in the company of two cleaning ladies.”

One of the ladies took off her waist wrap to cover Baby Ado and the other lady, who had a baby on her back, had two bottles of milk of which she gave one to the little one,” Mothiba remembers.

Baby Ado was estimated to have been around two or three months old when she was found.

Today, she is a happy seven-month-old, compared to the tired infant Mothiba found without a note from the mother, a nappy or even a blanket.

Mabotse, who has her own biological children, is known for active participation in community activities, including local community policing forums, which she labels as one of her passions.

In the spirit of International Women’s Day which was celebrated on March 8, Mothiba would like to advise women to seek help from the right people and institutions if they feel overwhelmed by motherhood, instead of resorting to extreme measures.

“Problems and challenges are part of life. Do not let your emotions destroy your life. Let us not judge, but give support where necessary. If you cannot afford a child, use contraceptives and plan for the future. Young girls, let us not entrap married men with pregnancies, it is not worth it. Life is unpredictable,” she concluded.
