Two men arrested with illicit cigarettes in Mokopane

Two men transporting illicit cigarettes from Polokwane to Mokopane were cornered by the Limpopo Flying Squad on Saturday (April 1).

MOKOPANE – Two men, aged 21 and 35, appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today (April 3) on possession of illicit cigarette and resisting arrest charges.

The duo were arrested on Saturday (April 1) as cooperative efforts by Limpopo police, in an attempt to clear the province of all crime yielded positive results.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said members of the Limpopo Flying Squad were on routine patrol duties when they reacted to information about a grey SUV transporting illicit cigarettes along the R101 from Polokwane.

“The same vehicle fit the description of a vehicle seen in Thabo Mbeki Drive in Mokopane and neglected a call to be stopped by police. The driver of the vehicle lost control which resulted in him hitting a wall,” Ledwaba’s statement read.

The suspects were then cornered and arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest and applauded members for their readiness and quick response.
