In an exclusive interview, ZCC spokesperson Ephraim Mafetsa told Polokwane Observer that there would be no official Easter ceremony over the long weekend, citing similar reasons than in previous years.

He was not at liberty to provide further information.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, the management of the church decided to halt proceedings without confirmation on when normal operations would resume.

The gathering was put on hold to prevent the mass spread of Covid-19.

The annual pilgrimage is a spiritual highlight for ZCC followers.

Even so, a gradual opening of Moria’s doors has been seen in recent months as some members in need of services of the church, travel for this purpose.

In August 2022, government made strides to ease traffic congestion in the area, with the announcement of the construction of the multi-million rand St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) road interchange, along the R71.
