Gear up for the 2023 Netball World Cup with Netball Friday
You can support Netball Friday in anticipation of the Netball World Cup by wearing any sports T-shirt on Fridays.
POLOKWANE – Netball Friday was officially launched in the city on March 31 in preparation of the Netball World Cup.
In partnership with the Department of Sport, the Office of the Premier’s transversal wellness programme facilitated the launch as part of the buildup campaigns ahead of the Netball World Cup which will be held in South Africa for the first time.
The launch aimed to encourage citizens in the city to wear their sports gear every Friday to mark the arrival of the world cup tournament.
According to Tlakalane Nkadimeng, director of the transversal wellness programme, Netball Friday is a day to don your sports jersey.
“When the country hosted the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup, everyone wore sports attire in those last months leading up to the event. We want to sensitise our province too for the upcoming Netball World Cup. We do this by wearing sports jerseys of any sporting codes on Fridays, until the end of the tournament in August.”
She said residents should spread the word about the 2023 World Cup by participating in sports and promoting healthy lifestyles, both of which can significantly increase people’s physical fitness and productivity.

The tournament will be held at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, and is set to start on July 28 and end on August 6.
