POLOKWANE – A donation by Capitec Bank Polokwane Cycad Centre recently benefitted residents of Westenburg.
The handover took place at the Oranios Youth Centre on November 28 and formed part of Capitec’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme.
Capitec volunteers had the aim of contributing to communities through impactful social investment such as the handover of knitted blankets to Westenburg residents.
Sammy Tsheoga, the branch manager at Capitec Cycad explained that the initiative is close to their heart as a branch and the need was identified by a team member who resides in the area.
“With the help of Capitec’s CSI team, our regional manager and a few awesome community members who also contributed, we were able to gift 63 pensioners with blankets, sponsor 65 packs of pads and 50 boxes of tampons,” said Tsheoga.

They also donated pizzas and snacks to the children and delivered a motivational talk on the day.
“We educated them on the importance of education, personal hygiene and staying away from illegal substances.
“We shared a few products that their parents can open for them at Capitec Bank,” he added.
Volunteers on the day included Cassy Whitehead, the initiator of the community outreach project and Westenburg resident, Tsheoga, Anzel Buys, a consultant at Capitec Cycad and Westenburg resident, Ayanda Mkhize, consultant at Capitec Cycad, Cathy Mothapo (Bank Better Champion) and Phomolo Lekoloane branch manager at Capitec Bank Polokwane Landdros Maré Street.
Lizell Whitehead, community leader and founder of Oranios, expressed a heartfelt appreciation to Capitec for the donation.
“It really means a lot for the community to have received the donation. It’s 63 pensioners that will be warm on cold days and young girls that have one less thing to worry about. We can’t thank them enough for that,” she said.
