MOKOPANE – THE sight of Mayor Ngoako Taueatsoala arriving at the Post Office recently, armed with boxes of fresh fruit and bottles of water, sparked curiosity and excitement among the pensioners, who had become accustomed to the daily routine of waiting in line in the sun.
The mayor took his time to have a conversation with each senior citizen while handing out the fruit and water, all while smiling warmly and genuinely wanting to make a positive difference.
The mayor feels strongly that a simple act of food and hydration has become a symbol of care, respect and appreciation for the older generation. “Pensioners should stop travelling long distances when they can easily access their social grant in a supermarket near their homes,” he remarked.
His goal was to spread joy among pensioners and he emphasised the importance of looking after the elderly, saying this created a ripple effect of positivity in the community.
“The spirit of ubuntu echoed through the streets, reminding everyone of the power of empathy and the profound impact it can have on individuals and society as a whole,” Taueatsoala concluded.
