SANTACO announces courier service in Polokwane

Recently, the taxi industry working in the city and beyond has been bearing the brunt of commuters opting for other transportation services including shuttles.

POLOKWANE – Same day delivery of parcels from or to remote areas and towns in the Capricorn district where the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) operates, the city and major parts of Gauteng, is now an option.

This is according to the council’s secretary general in the district, Madimetja Sekhasembe, who last Tuesday announced efforts to extend its transport services to that of being a parcel courier.

“In Polokwane, take your parcel to the taxi rank where a marshall will receive it and enlist your details. The driver will keep contact with the receiver and arrange that they fetch it on the same day at the next drop-off station, wherever that taxi would have been dropping commuters off,” he told Polokwane Observer.

This is all at a cost of R200 per parcel.

Recently, the taxi industry working in the city and beyond has been bearing the brunt of commuters opting for other transportation services including shuttles, e-hailing, bus and train services.

“With such deliveries, if a driver can at least get four parcels and use a trailer if necessary, then they have a sustainable amount they can use for services and some for commission,” Sekhasembe mentioned.

For guaranteed safety of parcels, the council in Capricorn said it had the desire to install security cameras that would help deter criminal elements.
