Wamashudu sights set on Miss Duthuni title

Wamashudu Manwadu entered the Miss Duthuni in 2023/24 contest to improve her self-esteem and outgoing personality.

LIMPOPO – Wamashudu Manwadu (15) from Tswinga village outside Thohoyandou in the Vhembe district is a Miss Duthuni 2023/24 finalist.

She is passionate about modelling and preparing herself for the pageant.

The Gr 9 learner from Mphaphuli Secondary School said she wants to be an inspiration to the youth if she wins the title.

“I want to lead by example and be a role model for young people. I want them to be able to look at me and say ‘if she can do it, I know I can do it’,” said Manwadu.

She said she entered the Miss Duthuni in 2023/24 contest to improve her self-esteem and outgoing personality.

“Pageantry has been something I have always wanted to do. The beauty and splendour intrigued me. In 10 years from now, I hope to be one of the top models in South Africa and I’d love to be Miss South Africa one day. Being on this journey makes me proud of myself and knowing that there are people who look up to me as their inspiration, is inspiration in itself. I am enough and I deserve all these beautiful things that the universe might offer me.”

She is thankful for the role her parents have played in her journey.

“I was born to good parents and family members. They raised me well and taught me basic moral values. I am not bragging but yes, in a deteriorating world this is truly a privilege.”

As a model she has entered three competitions. “It was tough but trying harder and believing in myself, is what keeps me going.”

Now, she seeks a platform to advocate for the education of young people.

“I am blessed to have been allowed to receive a good education, and I know that this isn’t the reality for many young people in our country. Knowledge is power, as it’s something that can never be taken away from you. We as the youth, are this country’s future leaders and essentially the pioneers of change, and more time and energy need sto be invested in us. That starts with education and schooling. My goal is to assist young people with the resources they need to enter industries they will not only enjoy working in, but that will help them break the cycle of poverty that exist within their communities. My motto in life is that preparation is key, before anything else,” she said.
