Polokwane robbery suspect shot during scuffle

POLOKWANE – The police are investigating cases of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances following an incident in which a foreign national was shot and killed during a robbery which he reportedly initiated with an accomplice in Dalmada on Sunday evening.
Brig Hlulani Mashaba said preliminary reports indicated that two men were returning from a spaza shop when two assailants accosted them, using a gun and knife to make threats in demand of cash and cellphones.
One of the victims managed to escape and alerted their landlord, the police mentioned.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 40-year-old security officer rushed to the scene while carrying his service pistol.

Police arrived at the scene to recover the cellphone, a toy gun and knife which had been in possession of the deceased suspect. A manhunt for the other suspect was still ongoing yesterday (Wednesday).
Meanwhile in Westenburg, a 34-year-old male was arrested for being in the unlawful possession of illicit cigarettes last Thursday just after midnight.
During routine crime prevention duties, police spotted a suspicious looking vehicle driving along the N1 south within the Westenburg policing area.
“Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered a bulk cargo of about 700 boxes of illicit cigarettes worth an estimated R120 000 and the suspect was subsequently apprehended and charged with unlawful possession of illicit cigarettes,” a police statement reads.
