Prayer day in honour of Lufuno’s family

LIMPOPO – Netshituni Bus Service and Transport MEC Florence Radzilani visited the family of the late Mbilwi Secondary School learner, Lufuno Mavhunga in Tshirenzheni Nzhelele on Tuesday for a prayer day.

During the prayer ceremony, Netshituni gifted the family with a refrigerator, stove, TV, microwave oven, kettle and groceries.

The goodwill between Netshituni Bus Services and the Mavhunga family started in 2021 when the family lost their last-born daughter to suicide. Representatives have since been visiting the family frequently.

Netshituni Bus Services brand manager Vusani Masakona said they want to be there for the Mavhunga family.

“We pledged after the funeral that we are going to always be there for this family. We will always visit to check on them. During our last visit, we saw that there were a few things that were short in their house and we brought them today. We are still going to visit them so that they must feel that they are not alone,” said Masakona.

Lufuno’s father, Joseph Mavhungo said his family is grateful for the support.

“It was not easy for us to prepare for this day because it brings back old memories. We are thankful for the support we are receiving from the MEC and Bishop Radzilani, and the Netshituni Bus Service who always visit us this time of the year.

“I didn’t expect the many gifts they are giving us and we appreciate it. They are now like a family to us.”

The MEC said government has initiated programmes to ensure safety at schools.

“We are having dialogues with learners to find solutions on how to make our schools and outside schools safe. We have partnered with the Department of Education as I was touched by what the Netshituni family is doing.”

Radzilani also encouraged community members to enjoy the festive seasons responsibly and abide by the law.
