The murder charge against them is a schedule six offence.

Jan Maboka, Simon Mahlare and Sello Ephraim Matsebadi are said to have robbed and stabbed their victim on the day of the crime.

A group of Westenburg residents submitted a 21-page document of signatures and handed it over to the presiding officers in a bid to have bail denied.

The three men will appear in the same court on April 17 when witness statements, post mortem results and other findings are expected to be discussed.

Before the court proceedings on Monday, Patience’s sister, Senobia Louw, told Review how difficult it has been not only for the family, but also for the community, since her brother’s passing.

“As a coloured community we are gatvol,” she said.

Louw also said that as a coloured community, they want justice to be served.

Win Rainbow Lions, a community organisation was in support through its spokesperson, Elfrino Makhura, who said that through the 21-page petition it is evident that the community stands united and that the life of every person matters.
