Vhembe Muni adds to water services fleet

The purpose of the vehicles is to assist with water service challenges and blockages that the people of Vhembe may experience.

LIMPOPO – The Vhembe District Municipality last week handed over 10 vehicles meant to deliver water services to the people.

Mayor Freda Nkondo urged the drivers of the vehicles in the section of planning and technical services, to use them solely for the purposes of water service challenges and blockages, and nothing else.

She called on the communities around Vhembe to report all forms of reckless driving and using vehicles not for the purpose they were purchased for, to 015 960 2000.

“We will also impound vehicles found not doing the work it is supposed to do, as it is the people’s tax money that will be wasted and we cannot allow things not to be done correctly.”

According to Nkondo, the new vehicles will supplement the other vehicles workers were using. As the water services authority, they were well aware of the challenges relating to sewage and sanitation, she said.

“Water is life and without water, communities’ lives are in danger. This fleet will reduce the stress of workers in terms of water and sanitation services, who used to complain about a shortage of vehicles when called upon to solve water challenges.”
