International Junior Miss SA finalist gives back

Mahlatse Mabotja advised learners to embrace the opportunities that the departments of education and sport offer.

POLOKWANE – International Junior Miss South Africa 2024 finalist, Mahlatse Mabotja (16) from Polokwane visited Westenburg Secondary School last Monday to donate school shoes as well as netball kits.

“It is with great joy that I’m able to give back to schools in my home town. I’m reminded of the profound importance of generosity. The journey of being a finalist has been a testament to the power of dreams and the resilience that emerges when one strives for excellence. It is a journey filled with emotions, aspirations and the acknowledgment that each of us holds the potential to make a positive impact,” she remarked.

Mabotja, who’s currently in Gr 11 at Hoërskool Ben Vorster added that giving back is more than a mere act.

“It is a gesture that transcends boundaries, fostering unity and compassion. It is about extending a hand to lift others, understanding that the collective success of a community is a reflection of shared support and care.”

Westenburg Secondary School learners sit attentively during assembly as they listen to International Junior Miss SA 2024 finalist Mahlatse Mabotja’s speech.

She told Review that the donation of school shoes and netball kit is not just a material contribution, but a heartfelt expression of her belief of the learners’ potential.

“These items symbolise the power of solidarity and the idea that we can uplift each another through simple acts of kindness. As you lace up those new shoes and don the netball kit, may you feel the warmth of shared dreams and the strength that comes from knowing you are supported.”

In her speech, Mabotja advised learners to embrace the opportunities that the departments of education and sport offer.

“Find joy in the pursuit of knowledge, celebrate the victories on the field and cherish the bonds you form along the way. And as you navigate your individual journeys, remember the importance of giving back. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to change lives and create a ripple effect of positivity.” The International Junior Miss South Africa 2024 pageant is set to take place in December on the MSC Cruise Ship and Mabotja will also be taking part in the International Teen Supermodel SA show in September at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg.
