POLOKWANE – A 16-year-old foreign national has been arrested and placed in police custody for the rape of a three-year-old boy in Sasekani village, Mopani District.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that the incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday (May 13).

Ledwaba told the Review-Observer that the suspect was the child’s neighbour.

“The victim was reportedly playing in his neighbour’s yard. When he returned home, he told his grandmother that a male friend of his brother had raped him.”

The child’s grandmother approached the suspect’s father to investigate the incident but the 16-year-old denied the allegations against him.

The matter was immediately reported to the police and the victim was taken to the hospital for a medical examination.

“The suspect was traced and apprehended on Tuesday morning (May 14) while at Sasekani village,” said Ledwaba.

The probation officer is expected to compile an assessment report about the suspect regarding the court proceedings soon.
