Rapper Shebeshxt’s daughter (9) killed in tragic car crash

A car crash over the past weekend left the popular Polokwane rapper with internal bleeding, a head injury, and several bone fractures.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane superstar rapper Lehlogonolo Chauke (28) known by his stage name Shebeshxt or Shebe, underwent medical procedures this week to recover from severe injuries sustained in a tragic vehicle accident.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday night just outside Polokwane, claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile.

Chauke’s mother confirmed on Monday that the rapper suffered internal bleeding, a head injury, and several bone fractures.

He was driving his hatchback with his partner and daughter as passengers when the accident happened. Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, informed BONUS that Chauke’s vehicle collided with a larger vehicle and overturned.

Chuene did not provide any further information about injuries or fatalities sustained from those in the other vehicle that was involved in the crash.

Chauke’s partner survived with minor injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital, according to his mother. “I can confirm that Lehlogonolo is stable and able to talk. He is scheduled for surgery at a hospital in Polokwane,” she said earlier this week.

She expressed gratitude for the support from Provincial Government leaders and officials.

“Government was swift in assisting us with arrangements for my granddaughter’s burial and Lehlogonolo’s care. We are grateful,” she remarked.

Mphoza Mashabela, chairperson of the Limpopo Artists Movement, visited the family to offer support.

“Can we all pray for his recovery? His family needs us. This incident occurred during Youth Month, and as a young artist who has shown great potential, we pledge our support for him,” Mashabela told BONUS.

On Monday, Curro Northern Academy said they are deeply affected by Onthatile’s loss.

In a Facebook post, now shared more that six thousand times, the school extended condolences to the family as well as the nine-year-old’s friends and those who knew her.

Videos of Chauke being attended to at the scene by emergency medical services personnel circulated on social media late Saturday evening, a few hours after the accident, which the department confirmed happened around 22:20.
