Vhembe gospel star releases final live recording album

After a successful career as a solo artist, Minister Lufuno Dagada, has decided to step away from recording but will continue to mentor emerging musicians.

LIMPOPO – Renowned gospel artist Minister Lufuno Dagada is preparing to release his last live recording album in August.

After a successful 23-year career as a solo artist, Dagada, who is also a composer, producer, and music arranger, has decided to step away from recording but will continue to mentor emerging musicians.

At 50, Dagada reflects on his impactful career with pride. He began his solo journey in 2001 and co-founded the influential gospel group Worship House in 2004 alongside Isaac Dagada.

The group produced hit songs such as ‘Mifhululu’, ‘Wedding Song’, and ‘Kha Vha Rendwe’. Going solo in 2001, Dagada released several acclaimed albums, including ‘My Practical God’, featuring hits like ‘Zwoluga’, ‘Lekunutung’, and ‘VatamavonaMbilu Yanga Yo Takala’.

His contributions have earned him multiple awards, including the Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) and Crown Gospel Music Awards.

Dagada, who graduated from the University of Venda with a bachelor’s degree in the same year he went solo, says he feels it’s time to bow out.

“I’ve had a fruitful journey and enjoyed every moment,” he said. “This final live recording will be my last, and I am at peace with my decision.”

Born and raised in Tshamulungwi, Harambuda, Vhembe, Dagada expressed his gratitude for the experiences he’s gained.

He plans to focus on guiding new talents and sharing his expertise. His advice to aspiring gospel artists is to invest time in their craft and create original songs, avoiding imitation.

Musiwalo Sikhauli, a long-time friend from their university days, praised Dagada’s decision.

“Lufuno is the best creative gospel artist in Limpopo,” Sikhauli said. “His departure from active performance is a testament to his understanding of the craft and his legacy.”

Lufuno Dagada’s final live performance and recording will take place at the Moretela Church in Pretoria on August 31.
