POLOKWANE – A foreign national (40) will appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court today (August 13) on a charge of murder following his arrest on Sunday (August 11).

The man was arrested shortly after an elderly woman (74) was found hacked to death in her home in Mahwelereng Zone 2.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the woman was certified dead on the scene after a concerned neighbour alerted the police and emergency services.

“The woman’s neighbour was alerted by the commotion and rushed to the house to assist. He found the victim lying outside her house, tied with a rope and multiple stab wounds,” his statement read.

Ledwaba said local detectives acted swiftly by identifying and apprehending the suspect shortly after the attack.

“Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event,” he added.
