Limpopo man arrested for kidnapping and murder of pensioner

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for murdering a 63-year-old man, burning his body, and burying the remains in his yard.

POLOKWANE – A 28-year-old man has been apprehended for charges of murder and kidnapping after attacking a 63-year-old male and causing his death.

Following an extensive investigation, the suspect was arrested on Thursday, September 5, in the Gauteng province.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says that in July 2022, the suspect had burnt the victim’s body and buried the remains in his yard. The suspect had also stolen and sold the victim’s truck.

Further investigations uncovered that prior to his arrest, the suspect became aware of police investigations, prompting him to return to his residence in Motetema, dig up and remove the deceased’s remains, and then scatter them in his friend’s yard.

The friend, who was reportedly unaware of the incident, alerted the police upon discovering the human remains in his yard.

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the investigating officers for their handling of the case and ensuring the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect is set to appear before Motetema Magistrate’s Court today (September 9) to face charges of murder and kidnapping.

The stolen truck has not been recovered, but police investigations continue.
