One dead and several injured in N1 head-on collision
A freightliner truck collided head-on with a sedan near Makete Lodge on the N1 North this morning resulting in the death of a 40-year-old man.
POLOKWANE – The N1-28 towards Louis Trichardt remains partially closed following a fatal head-on collision this morning.
A 40-year-old male was killed and three others injured when a freighliner truck collided head-on with a sedan near Makete Lodge.
The Department of Transport’s spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene says the collision then caused multiple rear-ends as a result.
Two minibus taxis, a bakkie and two other sedans rear-ended each other in the process.
According to the accident report, one person was seriously injured while two people sustained minor injuries.
“The possible cause of the accident is under investigation. Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in this tragic incident. We wish those injured a speedy and full recovery,” Chuene told the Polokwane Review-Observer.
The department urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and patience on the roads.
“Drive responsibly, follow traffic rules, and prioritise your safety and that of others,” Chuene concluded.
