Noorderland learner dances her way to Netherlands
Noorderland's Akani Hlungwani to represent SA at 2024 World Dance Championship in Netherlands after winning national Latin American dance title.
POLOKWANE – Noorderland’s Akani Hlungwani (gr 10) has been selected to represent South Africa under the South African Dance Foundation (SADF) in the 2024 World Dance Council Amateur League (WDC AL) World Championship, taking place on November 2 in The Netherlands.
Hlungwani, alongside her dance partner Molemo Moholane, won the South African Achievers and National Championship under Federation of Dance Sport in South Africa (FEDANSA) out of a total of 32 dance teams, with the contest being held at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex in Seshego.
The duo’s outstanding performance earned them the prestigious title of South African Youth Latin American Champions, as well as recognition as ambassadors of the South African Dance Foundation.
Hlungwani’s journey into Latin dancing began only in 2022, yet she has quickly established herself through passion and hard work. “This is a lifetime opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be part of the world championship.”
Despite her short time in the dance industry, this will be her second time competing at an international level.
In 2023, Hlungwani and Moholane represented South Africa at Noorderland’s Akani Hlungwani to represent SA at 2024 World Dance Championship in Netherlands after winning national Latin American dance title.e WDC AL World Championships and the Dutch Open World Championship in Assen, Netherlands. Their return to the global stage in 2024 reflects their continued growth and excellence.
Adelaide Hlungwani, Akani’s mother, expressed her pride in her daughter’s achievements. “She is a sweet, bubbly, and respectful young girl. I always ensure I support her in everything she does because I want to see her succeed,” said Adelaide.
