Limpopo policeman arrested for murder of wife and domestic worker

The sergeant was on the run following the ordeal and was wounded during a shootout with the police on Thursday night.

LIMPOPO – A Limpopo police sergeant (44) faces two counts of murder and attempted murder after he allegedly shot his wife and domestic worker at their homestead in the Vhembe District.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the sergeant was on the run and was arrested following a shootout with police last night.

“The suspect was located in the Makuya policing area after a well coordinated operation by the Vhembe SAPS District Task Team. He was spotted driving at a high speed along the Tshitavha Road next to the Sambandou bridge,” Ledwaba said.

The suspect fired multiple shots at the officers after they attempted to stop his vehicle, prompting a swift response from the team.

“The suspect was wounded in the exchange and one police officer sustained minor injuries. The police recovered a service pistol and ammunition. Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” Ledwaba confirmed.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been notified for further handling of the case following the shooting ordeal.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the rapid response of members in Vhembe district.

“We wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assure the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards our officers. This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served,” she said.

The suspect will appear before the Masisi Magistrate’s Court soon.
