Limpopo man involved in taxi hijacking and robbery arrested

The suspect allegedly hijacked a taxi alongside three male accomplices and evaded arrest before he was apprehended by Thohoyandou police.

LIMPOPO – The Vhembe District police have arrested a man (42) who was involved in the hijacking of a taxi and robbery of victims’ belongings in the Mutale policing precinct on October 2.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect allegedly hijacked a taxi alongside three male accomplices during an incident in which a member of the local neighbourhood watch was shot near the Tswera bridge.

“The hijacked taxi was found abandoned at the Vhurivhuri-Golwe picnic campsite main entrance. Two suspects were subsequently arrested at Tshandama village in the Makuya precinct, but the other two managed to evade arrest following the incident,” Ledwaba said.

He added that the police received information about the 42-year-old suspect on Monday and an intelligence driven operation was executed by the Thohoyandou police and the Tactical Response Team in Tshiulungoma village that resulted in his arrest.

“The suspect is positively linked to an attempted murder incident in October in the Makuya area, including a house robbery in Ha-Tshifura village under the Thohoyandou policing area,” his statement read.

The man will appear before the Makuya Regional court soon pending ongoing investigations.
