Five killed in horror N1 incident

Speeding has been cited as the possible cause of a crash on the N1 North overnight that resulted in the death of five people.

POLOKWANE – The N1 North is now open following a temporary closure on Friday night after a road incident claimed the lives of five people.

Emergency services and police were called to attend to the scene.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the incident occurred on the N1-25 Ysterburg in the direction of Polokwane around 21:45 on November 8.

Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene says the driver of a sedan lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn.

“The driver and four passengers of the vehicle were declared dead on arrival,” she said.

The possible cause of the incident has been cited as speeding.
