Veld fire causes extensive damage to The Ranch’s bush facility
The Ranch Resort's general manager, Paul Shearer said the damage was done by the time the Polokwane fire services arrived due to the distance travelled.
POLOKWANE – A veld fire that originated on farm land opposite the N1 highway and then spilled over to the premises of The Ranch Resort’s Wildthingz Bush Lodge, caused extensive damage to buildings last Sunday morning.
According to The Ranch Resort general manager, Paul Shearer, the fire did not jump the highway, but entered the Ranch property through the tunnel where the Sand River crosses the highway.
“The Polokwane fire services responded to our call for assistance, but the damage was done when they arrived due to the distance from the fire station,” Shearer said.
On Monday morning, a shocked Shearer could not as yet provide an estimate of the damage.
The facility is closed until further notice, he said, and stressed that the facilities at the main complex of the Ranch Resort were not affected and none of the animals on the resort suffered injuries.
“Also, the camping area was not affected and it is business as usual,” he added.
