Foreigners nabbed for stolen vehicle in Thohoyandou
Two foreign nationals arrested in Thohoyandou for possession of suspected stolen vehicle with Gauteng registration plates bound for Zimbabwe.
LIMPOPO – Police officials from the vehicle crime investigation unit (VCIU) in Thohoyandou arrested two foreign nationals, aged 28 and 47, recently at approximately 12:50. The suspects were taken into custody for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, reported that a VCIU officer on duty was approached by the two suspects, who arrived driving a white Nissan NP200 with Gauteng registration plates.
The pair requested clearance to travel with the vehicle to Zimbabwe. During inspection, officers noticed grind marks on the vehicle, raising suspicion.
“Upon further checks in the system, it was discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in the Florida policing area in Gauteng in July 2024,” said Ledwaba. Questioned about the vehicle’s origin, the suspects claimed they had received it from their brother residing in Gauteng but failed to provide a reasonable explanation.
The suspects were arrested on-site and detained at the Thohoyandou Police Station.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrests and commended the VCIU members for their vigilance. “This successful arrest reflects our commitment to eliminating crime from the province,” she said.
The two suspects appeared before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday, on charges of a presumed stolen vehicle.
Police investigations were ongoing at the time of reporting.
