Limpopo leaps to second place in Power Tower Food Drive

Limpopo takes second place in Power Tower Food Drive, building 5.9-ton tower with non-perishable items for those in need.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo made an impressive leap to second place in this year’s annual Power Tower Food Drive, constructing a 5.9-ton tower – up from 1.4 tons last year.

The event, held outside Platinum Park Superspar, saw enthusiastic residents gather to donate non-perishable items including maize meal and dog food.

The initiative was spearheaded by Mr and Mrs Limpopo 2024/25, Theuns de Jager and Jolene du Bruyn, with support from 2025 Little Miss Limpopo Maruzel du Bruyn and Teen Miss Limpopo Lezaan Fichardt.

Platinum Park Superspar manager, Martin van der Westhuizen, praised the initiative, saying the value lies in giving back to the community. He encouraged more residents to participate each year.

Limpopo ends second in the 2024 Power Tower Food Drive with a 5.9-ton tower.

Founded in 2020 by Juanita and Alwyn Smit, the Power Towers Food Drive works under the motto, ‘Together we can feed the nation’.`

The project also collaborates with RoleModels Foundation and Mzanzi Pageants, led by Juanita, to support numerous charities and individuals across South Africa.

East London claimed first place with an impressive 16.3-ton tower, while Gauteng and the Western Cape followed in third and fourth spot respectively.
